We absolutely hate that we have to talk about this…
Our patterns are copyrighted.
Our designs are patent pending.
These are designs and ideas that we’ve spent several years of our lives and lots of money developing and refining until they’re just right!
When you share a digital pattern with your friends…
Even if it’s a pattern we’ve offered free, sending it to your friends hurts us. We offer those freebies as samples of our products—so you can try before you buy. In exchange, you opt into our newsletter so we can tell you about new products. When your friends get our patterns from you, instead of from us, we don’t get the chance to tell them about new products or future freebies and giveaways.
Instead of sending these freebies on, send the link and let your friends come register on our site and download their own pattern free. It’s a win/win for everyone.
When you purchase a digital or print pattern…
You’ve only purchased the rights for YOUR personal use. That means, if you buy a pattern for a bed, and you have four girls, YES! you can make that bed four times with one pattern. If you’re a grandma with 12 granddaughters, YES! you can make that bed 12 times with one pattern.
However, you may not email that digital pattern to your four (or forty) best friends. That really hurts our ability to keep making new patterns.
Also, you may not print the pattern multiple times for use in a class or workshop. You may not use that pattern to make a bunch of beds to sell to your neighbors, or on your website, or Etsy and similar sites, or in craft boutiques. If you want to do that, you must contact us to apply for a limited commercial license.
Additionally, there are no Fair Use exceptions that apply to our patterns. We DO NOT grant any form of Creative Commons License. And just because our patterns are on the Internet does not mean they are public domain. And, you may not adjust the pattern and call it your own. (That is plagiarism. Contrary to some beliefs, you cannot change just a few small parts of a product and call it your own.)
Our designs are Patent Pending. That means we’ve registered them with the U.S. Patent Office and they are protected. If you copy our design ideas—even if you change some of the details—you are breaking the law.
How much does it hurt?
Every single pattern on this site (even the ones we offer for free) costs us $2000 or more to develop, test, illustrate, typeset, and market. If we can’t recoup that investment, then we won’t be able to make more patterns.
And we’ve got over 100 different patterns currently in the pipe line.
This applies to our Printed patterns too!
Everything we said above about sharing our digital patterns applies to printed patterns, as well. No photocopying allowed. No scanning and sending them to friends.
So before you share our patterns (digital or print), ask yourself this:
